Premeditated – πŸ“½ by @owen_reiser

The Cicada Killer Wasp has a very meticulous and methodical way of reproducing:
β€’
They start by mating, after which the male will die and the female will burrow underground. Why? Well she needs storage space. Like something out of H.H. Holmes Wikipedia page, she’s building a fun house of horror/baby factory with large chambers that will be sealed off seperately.
β€’
Next, it’s time to stuff it full of food, kinda like a doomsday prepper. She hunts, paralyzes and drags several rotund cicadas to her burrow and places each one in it’s chamber. Then she lays an egg under the second leg of each cicada and dies shortly after.
β€’
The eggs then hatch, and the larvae starts munching away, taking care to avoid any organs that will prematurely kill the cicada. They need it alive for as long as possible. Once they’re done, the cicada can finally taste the sweet release of death. The larvae cocoons and hibernates until the next spring, where the process starts all over again.
