Hemoglobin is theĀ oxygen-transportĀ metalloproteinĀ in theĀ red blood cells of allĀ vertebrates.

Hemoglobin in theĀ bloodĀ carries oxygen from theĀ lungsĀ to the rest of the body.

There it releases the oxygen to permitĀ aerobic respirationĀ to provide energy to power the functions of the organism in theĀ metabolism.

It’s also the reason blood is red, because of how the chemical bonds between the iron in hemoglobin and the oxygen it distributes reflect light. – @wikipedia
