Bleeding Tooth Fungus (hydnellum peckii)

Also known as the devils tooth fungus, it secretes or “bleeds” bright red droplets with anticoagulant properties similar to heparin.

The fungi has been known to bioaccumulate and cycle radioactive heavy metals like caesium-137 in the surrounding soil, reducing the likelihood of ingestion by surrounding wildlife and inadvertently, humans.

One of its other names is strawberries and cream… Mmmmmm forbidden dessert.
