Persistence Hunting

Most prey animals are not built for endurance – a quick burst of speed is usually enough to outrun a predator built in a similar way (think lion, cheetah, tiger)

Which would kind of explain why wild dogs are extremely effective with their persistence hunting method.

By hunting in groups, the lead dogs can hang back and take a quick rest while the more rested dogs take over the chase.

They can keep this up for miles, all the while their prey gets run down to the point of being too tired to keep moving or fight back, even when the dogs start eating them alive.

It’s no wonder they enjoy an 85% hunting success rate.
