This is the view of The Orroral Valley fire on the hills behind the suburb of Gordon, taken on Friday 31st January 2020 at 9pm.

Note: the orange lights in the foreground are the street lights (not fire). This fire is so large that it is generating it’s own weather pattern, and when you combine that with the erratic gusts of wind you get a fire that is not only unpredictable but extremely intense and fast moving.

Some residents in the path of the bushfires have be warned that is it “too late to leave” and they should try to seek shelter.

Since September, bushfires in Australia have killed at least 33 people and destroyed thousands of homes. More than 11 million hectares of land have been scorched so far.
