A south polar skua takes a penguin chick.

Skuas (sometimes called jaegers – german for hunter) are a group of predatory seabirds who live most of their lives at sea – only coming ashore to breed.

Although they do hunt occasionally, skuas are known as kleptoparasites – most of their food comes from chasing other predators down and stealing what they caught instead of hunting for themselves.

Another common trait of skuas is their nest defence strategy, they are intensely territorial and will fly directly at the head of any intruder- especially humans.
