When a grey heron lands a large meal like this, its first job is to subdue it, whipping its head up and down to smash it against anything at its disposal.
Alternatively, they’ve also been known to use their beak like a spear to stab and dismember their kills.
Along with snakes, fish, amphibians, small mammals and insects round out the rest of their diet.
