“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not” – George R.R. Martin

This is Silver Eye, a notorious killer and head lioness of Botswana’s Tsaro pride.

The fact that she’s missing one eye hasn’t slowed her down one bit, as she often leads her pride in the hunt.

She is also one of the main “villains” in the @natgeo documentary “The Last Lions” which I’ve never seen, but I intend on changing that in the near future.

Silver eye and her Tsaro pride inhabit the Okavango Delta, one of the largest inland deltas in the world.

A delta is an area of low, flat land shaped like a triangle, where in this case, the cubango river splits and spreads out into several branches before emptying into open land, flooding the savanna and creating a unique and ever changing habitat.

The lions of the Okavango Delta are arguably the largest on the planet

They are more muscular (especially in their front legs) out of necessity – walking and swimming through the many streams in the region.

They also enjoy an abundance of cape buffalo and zebra passing through the area, one of the perks of adapting to life in a wetland.

Where there’s water, there is always food.
