Landing Gear

This is a photo of a bald eagle’s legs hanging on to a tree branch that’s been going around this week.

This one had me fooled when I first saw it, but if you look closely you can see that the feet are reversed, and that the “killing talons” are on the outside instead of where they should be – on the inside.

I’ve highlighted these talons in the second slide.

So, unless the raptor perched criss-crossed apple-sauce, froze to death and sat there long enough for the rest of its body to rot away and break off at the ankles, it means that someone found a dead bird or just these legs and posed them for the picture.

It’s a shame, I really wanted this one to be real.

Alternatively, if you think I’m wrong about the validity of this photo, please don’t hesitate to tell me in the comments.

Fun fact: a full grown adult eagle can exert the equivalent of 500 psi with its talons, which allows them to literally crush and eviscerate prey with ease.
