Cheetah feeding on a zebra takes a breath

An adult african cheetah can consume up to 10kg (22lbs) of meat in one sitting.

Depending on the location of their territory, a solitary cheetah can take down any small to medium-sized prey animals that call that region home.

The list is extensive, but some of the animals cheetah prey upon include:
Warthog
Springbok
Hartebeest
Puku
Zebra
Steenbok
Impala
Nyala
Antelope
Gazelle
Addax
Gemsbok
Hare
Waterbuck

The hunting success rate of a cheetah depends on a myriad of factors, for example: coalitions are obviously more successful than lone cheetahs, they can also hunt larger prey – but coalitions must hunt more often than a solitary cheetah as there are more mouths to feed

With all factors considered, the average hunting success rate of a cheetah is between 25% – 40% when they hunt adult prey and significantly higher when they hunt more vulnerable prey (animals less than one year old) as the speed of the chase often separates them from the protection of the mother.
