Hummingbird somehow trapped itself and died in the fork of this plant I am unable to to identify.

Some hummingbirds zip around at a top speed of 54kph (34mph) so it’s possible this is the product of a gross miscalculation at speed, but I’m open to other theories.

Hummingbirds have the highest mass-specific metabolic rate of any warm-blooded animal.

To conserve energy when food is scarce, and nightly when not foraging, they can go into torpor, slowing their metabolic rate to 1/15th of its normal rate.

While in torpor (a deep sleep similar to hibernation) a hummingbird consumes 50 times less energy while keeping their body temperature just above the hypothermic threshold – preventing them from freezing to death every single night.
