Something hilarious happened under the water just before this photo was taken and we will never know what it was.

Great white sharks have the most developed sense of humor in the entire ocean. They can hear a joke from over 2 miles away. Ok, that’s bullshit – but you can’t tell me this shark doesn’t look like he’s having a great time.

I honestly can’t look at this photo without laughing, which is actually awesome because when I was younger I was TERRIFIED of sharks – the “lifeless” eyes, the teeth, the insatiable hunger.

I’ve obviously grown out of that, and that fear has been replaced with a real sense of awe and amazement at what these animals are capable of, and why it’s so important that they are able to maintain a healthy population – and not just great whites, but all sharks.

I don’t know where I’m going with this… save the sharks? Maybe. That’s a hard sell. “Don’t they eat people?” Not intentionally, no. “But they kill people?” Sometimes, very rarely…. a lot less than we do to each other….All I know is, if we (humans) keep killing them at the rate were doing it, they probably won’t be around in 10 years. They will cease to exist on this planet.

Just for reference – and the number is mind boggling – but collectively… humans kill 100 million sharks per year.

That is fucking madness.

Add this to the seemingly infinite list of problems we’re having this year, and priority-wise this does not hold a candle to COVID or any of the other pressing issues we’re trying to solve, but the photo struck a cord with me and I felt like talking for once, instead of just regurgitating info at all of you.
