Cape buffalo with a broken horn.

I’ve seen photos of these animals picking up full-grown lions with nothing but their extremely powerful necks and their horns. They also lock horns with other buffalo and scrap it out over females, but I have never seen a horn break off at the boss (fancy name for the crown that forms on top of their heads) like that.

If you’re wondering about the bird, its called an oxpecker – they have a habit of perching on top of large mammals (such as these buffalo) and feasting on any ticks, insects, botfly larvae or anything else they might come across as they traverse the mighty beast.

I’d like to hear your theories as to what happened to this buffalo’s horn, if you have one.
