A bald eagle uses sustained pressure to wear down this heron and grab one of the defenseless chicks it is protecting.

In reality, the heron is no match for the eagle. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure the eagle could take the adult heron as well as the chicks, however there is a higher risk of injury involved taking down an adult as opposed to a helpless chick.

This nest originally had 4 chicks, all of them eventually swiped by the eagles.

The smart vampire doesn’t kill their host, they let them regain their strength (or in this case, have more babies) in order to feed from them again.

The eagles might be playing 4D chess here.
