Monsters Are Real
πŸ“Έ by @spoken_wildlife

A massive crocodile with a nearly decapitated wildebeest’s head in its jaws.

The absolute terror involved in these river crossings cannot be understated.

But there’s strength in numbers.

The idea is simple: if we all cross at once, most of us will make it.

Most of us.

I’ve never seen a crocodile up close, maybe they aren’t as big as I was told, maybe they were just trying to scare us.

As we approach the crossing, the smell is unmistakable.

It started as a whiff, now the stench of decomposing flesh is inescapable as we gallop towards the bank of the river.

The water is a pale shade of red.

Don’t look just run.

Is the water always red?

Keep running.

Hit the embankment.

Leap into the deeper water

Almost there

And then,

White-hot Excruciating Agony.

Forced under water.

Can’t breathe.

Struggle in vain.

This river was my destination all along
