A striped marlin skewers a mackerel with its rostrum (spear-like snout).

Striped marlin can reach speeds of up to 50mph (80kph), they weigh between 250 – 450lbs (113 – 204kg) and reach a max length of 14ft (4.2m) long.

I know it looks badass, but this is not the intended use of the marlin’s “sword”. While it is used for hunting, the impalement of their eats is not the main objective.

Striped marlin (along with sailfish and swordfish) will primarily use their rostrum to stun/disorient their prey, swiping it back and forth at dizzying speeds through schools of fish and easily chowing down on the ones they stun.
