Power Strip

A large tree stripped of its bark, caused by a lightning strike.

Trees have a thin cambium outer later, just below the bark that transmits water, amino acids, sugars, etc from the root system all the way up to the top.

When lightning strikes, it super heats this layer (more specifically the water) under the bark, creating nearly instantaneous steam pressure.

This is what caused the bark to come off in sheets, although I’m sure it’s not always this cleanly stripped.

Without the cambium layer to feed it, the tree will die. The only thing left to do is cut it down.
