A lioness carries away her dead cub which was killed by an intruding male.

Unfortunately the dominant males who hold the territory were too far away to protect them.

It’s not uncommon practice for outsider males to kill unrelated cubs, lions do this to reduce resource expenditure on genetically unrelated offspring, increase the likelihood of subsequent breeding and simply reduce competition.
