African painted dog tearing out a mouthful of wildebeest innards.

This picture got me thinking about the length of animal intestines and roughly how far this dog would have to walk back in order to pull it all out in one go.

The closest animal I could find a reliable number in regard to the actual length of the digestive tract is the domestic cow, who are both classified as ruminants (mammals that eat and digest plants such as grass).

If I am correct in this little hypothetical exercise of mine and the dog grabbed the very beginning of the wildebeest’s digestive tract, she would have to walk approximately 40m (131ft) to extract all of it.
