Bald eagle finishing off a baby chick.

Bald eagles, along with many other birds, are equipped with crops. A crop is an expandable pouch connected to the digestive system and is used to store food.

When food is abundant, bird that have crops will often fill their stomachs and then fill the crop so that they can go without food for several days if they need to.

Bald eagles can store food in their crop for up to a week, and it can be dipped into if/when food gets scarce.
