Iberian wolf transporting the head of a roe deer to a safer locale.

Also known as spanish wolves, these wild canids are a subspecies of grey wolf. They inhabit the northwestern Iberian peninsula with includes northern Portugal and northwestern Spain.

The roughly 2700 wolves that live there have been isolated from mixing with any other Eurasian wolf populations for over a century – I assume this is due to their local geography.

Iberian wolves make up the largest wolf population in Western Europe.
