This mako shark washed up on a beach in Mexico after losing a fight with a stingray.

In fact, the embedded barb of the stingray is visible in the first 2 photos, and the 3rd photo gives you an idea of its overall length.

Stingrays are able to regrow the barb at a rate of roughly 2cm (0.79in) per month, which means the switchblade fish that ended this sharks life could potentially do it again.

Along with the barb, the stingray secretes venom via cells within the skin that houses it. This enveloping skin is ripped open when the stingray plunges the barb into its victim, which ensures that the target is envenomated.
