The remains of a grevy’s zebra, taken down and devoured by adult lioness and five her cubs.

Grevy’s zebras (Equus grevyi) are the largest and the rarest of the three zebra variants, the other two being the plain’s zebra (E. quagga) and the mountain zebra (E. zebra)

Grévy’s zebras are native to Kenya and Ethiopia. It is estimated that there are 2800 grevy’s left in the wild, although some believe the number to be even lower than that.

The differences between the grevyi and the quagga species are subtle, so I’ve added photos of each so you can see for yourself.
